Olympic 2012 hopefuls

Why we’re getting behind Emma, Laura and London 2012.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local swimmer, Emma Cattle, and local cyclist, Laura Trott, as they attempt to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.

Emma Cattle - Paralympic Swimming
Hutton-born Emma trains locally in Luton, Bedfordshire. She has been swimming since the age of 7 and at 23 has already raced at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, where she finished 6th in the final. Emma broke the European record in the heats and won a silver medal at both the 2009 and 2011 European Championships. In the 2009 European Championships, she also won a bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle. “This is just so great,” said Emma “I can’t thank Specialist Cars and BMW enough. I spend a lot of time driving to and from training sessions, and driving to events ahead of London 2012, so having a brand new car is amazing. Suddenly, I’m the envy of all my friends!”

Laura Trott - Cycling
At just 19, Laura has been cycling for 11 years. Last year, Laura won gold medals in the team pursuit and omnium at the 2011 European Track Championships and gold again in the team pursuit at 2011 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. This year, in the lead up to London 2012, Laura won bronze in the omnium and set a new world record in the team pursuit at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in London to follow her golden run. “It’s fantastic having a brand new car from Specialist Cars and BMW,” said Laura. “We do a lot of travelling so it’s great that we have the cars from now until the end of London 2012 - and that we can arrive everywhere in style!”

Getting involved
Michael Donovan, Dealer Principal at Specialist Cars, said “It’s fantastic to be supporting local athletes hoping to qualify for London 2012. We’re really rooting for both Emma and Laura, and are delighted to be involved in their journey. Backing them makes us all feel as if we’re playing a part in London 2012 too.”
